Mendocino County Business License and Food Booth Fee Exemption for Veterans

The ordinance. County Code section 6.04.090(a), from Ordinance No. 4200 of 2008: "Pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 16102, every soldier, sailor or marine of the United States who has received an honorable discharge or a release from active duty under honorable conditions from such service may hawk, peddle, and vend any goods, wares, or merchandise owned by him or her except for spirituous, malt, vinous, or other intoxicating liquor without payment of any license, tax or fee whatsoever, provided, however, all such veterans shall nevertheless be required to obtain any and all permits and licenses required by this Chapter, to be issued without charge therefore. All such licenses shall be issued on an annual basis, and no such license shall be issued unless the applicant exhibits to the Tax Collector the original or photo-static copy of a document verifying their honorable discharge (DD214)." Section 6.04.070(a) lets the Tax Collector issue a licence on "presentation of Veteran's honorable discharged military documents (DD214)" in place of the fee, and section 6.04.060 has the licence show the "notation of Veteran's exemption". What it saves. The county's August 2026 packet charges a fixed-location business a one-time $172 (home occupation) or $289 (standard) fee through Planning and Building Services, with "All fee Exemption - Submit a copy of DD214 for U.S. Armed Services honorable discharge", and a $40 yearly renewal to the Tax Collector; the out-of-county and mobile-business application asks for "$40 for the annual Business License Fee. Or Documentation verifying Honorable Discharge from the United States Armed Services (Copy of DD214)". The ordinance says a veteran's licence is "issued without charge", so a veteran asked for the $40 renewal should point to section 6.04.090(a). Food booths. Environmental Health: "Permit fees will be waived for Non-Profit and Veteran Exempt Temporary Food Booth Vendors with submission of official documentation showing their Non-Profit or Veteran Exempt status, except for Veteran Exempt booths that are selling alcohol or spirits." The permit itself is still required, and the application with a copy of the DD-214 goes to Environmental Health at least five business days before the event. Where. Inside the cities of Ukiah, Fort Bragg, Willits and Point Arena the city licenses instead. Treasurer-Tax Collector, 501 Low Gap Road, Room 1060, Ukiah; (707) 234-6875, [email protected]. The code was read in Supplement 76 (October 2026).
