By Resolution No. 2026-032 of March 10, 2026 the Madera County Board of Supervisors approved a permanent veterans monument at the Social Services campus in front of the Veterans Service Office and authorised fundraising up to $25,000 - 250 engraved bricks at $100 each, laid as the monument's planter-box wall, toward a $20,227 project of six bronze military-branch emblems, a two-by-three-foot bronze dedication plaque and a custom wrought iron frame.
What the Board approved. The staff letter for the March 10, 2026 consent item (BOS-015572, Social Services Department / Veterans Services Division, read 2026-10-21) states the project: "To honor all who have served in the United States Armed Forces, the Department of Social Services (DSS) wishes to establish a permanent monument as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of freedom. The Veterans Monument Project features a permanent installation at the DSS campus, located specifically at the foreground of the Veterans Service Office." The bricks are the fundraising vehicle: "DSS will implement a commemorative engraved-brick fundraising initiative, which will allow community members to purchase bricks to honor any military service member by having their names permanently engraved into the masonry. These bricks will serve as the outer layer of the monument's planter box structure." The money: "The total estimated cost for the Veterans Monument Project is approximately $20,227.00. This includes the procurement of six bronze military branch emblems, a 2' x 3' bronze dedication plaque, a custom wrought iron frame, and all necessary construction materials for the planter base. The department intends to fund these costs through the sale of 250 engraved bricks at a price of $100.00 per brick, for a total fundraising goal of $25,000.00 ... any remaining balance, estimated at $4,773.00, to be utilized for potential cost overrides or as capital project funds."
The resolution. Resolution No. 2026-032 (its PDF is posted with the March 10, 2026 package, read 2026-10-21) approves the project "to be created at the County Department of Social Services" and authorises the Social Services Director or designee "to act on behalf of County to conduct fundraising efforts, up to Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00)." The item ran on the Board's consent calendar on March 10, 2026; minutes for that meeting are not posted in the portal as of the read, so the adoption rests on the consent placement and the numbered resolution the Clerk posted (docs/COUNTY-REVISIT.md). The monument itself is recognition, not a benefit: a veteran or family wanting a brick is referred to the Veterans Service Office (559-675-7766).
