Loudoun County Veteran Hiring Preference

Loudoun considers an honorably discharged veteran for a county job, and gives additional consideration when VA has fixed a service-connected disability rating.

Also called: county job, hiring preference, veterans preference, V3, Loudoun employment.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Loudoun's human resources policy, following Code section 15.2-1509, requires the county to consider or prefer an honorably discharged veteran who meets the knowledge, skills, and eligibility requirements of the job. A service-connected disability rating fixed by VA gets additional consideration. The policy uses the state definition of veteran: an honorable discharge plus either more than 180 consecutive days of full-time active duty, including Guard and Reserve, or a service-connected disability rating. A disabled veteran can meet the definition on the rating alone. This is a hiring consideration. It does not promise a job. Loudoun also says it is a Virginia Values Veterans certified employer. Commonwealth jobs use Code section 2.2-2903 instead.
