Lewis and Clark County Operation Green Light for Veterans
Each Veterans Day the Board of County Commissioners lights county buildings green as part of Operation Green Light, the National Association of Counties initiative, and invites residents, businesses and organizations to replace one light bulb with a green one in honor of the more than 6,000 veterans who call the county home.
Also called: Operation Green Light, Veterans Day, green light, recognition, NACo, Helena, Commissioners.
The county's October 30, 2025 release records its participation: "In recognition of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, the Lewis and Clark County Board of Commissioners will illuminate county buildings in green ... as part of Operation Green Light - a national initiative that honors military veterans and raises awareness about the challenges they face, as well as the resources available to support them and their families at the county, state, and federal levels."
Board Chair and County Commissioner Candace Payne is quoted on the county's more than 6,000 veterans. The county invites residents, businesses and community organizations to join by replacing one light bulb with a green bulb, exterior or interior, and points to the national initiative's page for more. The release describes Operation Green Light's county role as honouring service and connecting veterans to the County Veterans Service Officers who help former service members access more than $52 billion in federal health, disability and compensation benefits each year - a description of the national programme; Lewis and Clark County itself does not employ a veterans service office, as the services entry records.
