Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Every Ohio county has a veterans service office and a Veterans Service Commission under Revised Code 5901 (see the Ohio entries): five or more honorably discharged veterans appointed to the commission, administering financial assistance and medical transportation from county money, with the service officer trained and accredited through the Ohio Department of Veterans Services. Lawrence County's office sits at 111 S. 4th Street, Ironton, Ohio 45638 - the courthouse block - weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., phone (740) 533-4327 or (740) 532-5290, fax (740) 533-4345, email [email protected] or [email protected] (the directory's two addresses; the "T. Carpenter" is the only name the county's records give for the office). The county's Departments and Services page is the only published directory line; the office's own site, lawcovets.org, is a GoDaddy template placeholder ("Accessibility Improvements in Progress") that carries the address and phone and nothing else, so no services, eligibility or assistance policy is published by the county anywhere that could be read. The Department of Veterans Services' Find a CVSO route - the State's own directory of county offices - answers 404 to every fetch (as it did to the earlier rounds), so no State sheet for Lawrence could be read either. A veteran needing the county's financial assistance or a ride should call (740) 533-4327 and ask what the commission requires; the State's chapter 5901 programme runs on the county commission's own application and rules.
