For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's rule. Human Resources' Hiring Process page: "Veterans of the armed forces of the U.S. who have received an Honorable Discharge from active duty shall receive an additional five points added to his/her final composite test score. This preference will apply only to the first appointment to any permanent County position. A copy of a valid DD214 must be submitted on or before the final filing date in order to be eligible for Veterans Preference points." What that means. Five points for any honorably discharged veteran, with no larger tier for a disabled veteran and no war-service test; it is used once, on the first permanent appointment, not for promotions or later moves. A general discharge under honorable conditions is not named. The County Code on Municode has no veterans preference section, so the rule is the county's personnel practice as Human Resources publishes it. How. Attach the DD-214 (member copy 4) to the application before the posting's final filing date; a DD-214 sent after it does not count. Human Resources, 255 North Forbes Street, Lakeport, CA 95453.
