Appointments are required: "Walk-ins are not recommended, as we cannot guarantee immediate assistance due to scheduled appointments with other veterans and ongoing office responsibilities." The rename. The rename was director Jonathan Wyble's proposal and claims coordinator Mary Walker stays beside him: "To eliminate confusion for local veterans, the Jefferson County Commissioners have changed the name of the county's Veterans Affairs Office to the Jefferson County Veterans Service Office. At last week's meeting of the commissioners, VA director Jonathan Wyble explained that the county office is not 'the VA. We are not employees of the federal agency; we are employees of Jefferson County. We proposed that change to dispel any confusion that we are not federal, but we are county with the state of Pennsylvania.' He said, 'Under the VA, you have the VAH, which is Veterans Administration of Health, and you also have the VBA, which is Veterans Benefits Administration.' 'Mary (Walker, claims coordinator) and I are both accredited, not only through the federal VA to be able to handle affairs and claims, but also with the state of Pennsylvania, Department of Military [and Veterans Affairs].'" (Jeffersonian Democrat/Courier Express, August 21 and 23, 2025.) Wyble - who "recently retired from the U.S. Marine Corps following 30 years of service" - was introduced as the county's Veterans Affairs director at the commissioners' October 2023 meeting. The State's county-directors list carries the office as "Jefferson - Jonathan Wyble - 155 Main St, 2d Fl., Brookville, PA 15825-1269 - (814) 849-3618 - (814) 648-7001 - [email protected]". The county's own programme, in the page's list: "Burial and Headstone allowances for the county Veterans"; "Application for Burial Benefits for Deceased Veteran or Deceased Veterans Spouse/Application for Headstone Expenses Benefits for Deceased Veteran"; "Cemetery Care allowance for Veterans grave care"; "Distribution of U.S. flags and emblem markers for placement on appropriate deceased Veterans graves for Memorial Day"; and "County DAV Transportation Program provides Free rides for Veterans to VA medical appointments. We are always seeking volunteer drivers for the county DAV program." The county burial allowance is the County Code's own (the State entry compares the classes); the headstone and cemetery-care forms post beside the VA Application for Burial download. The transportation. "Our office provides free transportation to VA medical facilities for Veterans, through a county DAV program. Our vehicle is driven by volunteer drivers and rides are coordinated by our office." The page carries a note on volunteer-driver availability ("Please note, that if a volunteer driv..."), the rides depending on the driver pool; the volunteer-driver application posts on the same page. The state and federal pointers. The page links the Pennsylvania DMVA's programmes - PA Veterans Registry, Veterans Temporary Assistance, Real Estate Tax Exemption, Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension, Blind Veterans Pension, the DD 214/215 Program, Educational Gratuity, Burial Honors, Honoring Our Veterans License Plates, the veteran designation on a driver's license - and the federal VA's compensation, pension, health care, insurance, education, housing grants, automobile grants, home loans and vocational rehabilitation; see the State entries.
