Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are the State's; the Florida entries explain them. The Jackson County Property Appraiser (Rebecca Morris-Haid, CFA) grants them from 4445 Lafayette Street, Room 106, Marianna, FL 32446; (850) 482-9646, fax (850) 482-9036; weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Filing. "Application for these exemptions must be made between January 1st and March 1st of the year for which you apply. The initial application must be made in person at the Property Appraiser's office. If you are confined to you home, arrangements can be made". Missing March 1 "constitutes a waiver of the exemption for that year", subject to the statutes' late-filing provisions, and most exemptions then renew automatically. What the page lists for veterans. The $5,000 disability exemption, shared with civilians: "Florida residents with a total and permanent disability or armed service members with at least 10% disability caused by a service-connected disability are eligible", with "a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs as documentation". The "Service-Connected Total and Permanent Disability Exemption" for "Any honorably discharged veteran with a service-connected total and permanent disability, surviving spouses of qualifying veterans and spouses of Florida resident veterans who died from service-connected causes while on active duty", on a VA letter certifying the service-connected total and permanent disability; it is "a total exemption from real estate taxes" on the homestead. The forms page carries the DR-501, the DR-501DV for the combat-related discount at 65 and the DR-501M deployed military exemption. Where it is narrower than the law. Section 196.24 gives the $5,000 exemption to an ex-servicemember discharged under honorable conditions who is disabled 10% or more "by misfortune or while serving during a period of wartime service", not only by a service-connected disability, and to the veteran's unremarried surviving spouse, whom the page does not mention; it also lets a veteran apply before the VA letter arrives and be refunded from the date of application. The exemptions page does not describe the section 196.082 combat-related discount, the section 196.173 deployment exemption or the section 196.091 wheelchair veteran exemption; ask for those by number.
