Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The rules are the State's; the Florida entry on discharge recording explains them. Section 28.222(3)(d) has the Clerk record the part of a discharge certificate that shows the character of service "without cost to the veteran", the Board of County Commissioners paying the Clerk's charge. What the Clerk's page says. The Recording page's fee table lists "Recording any instrument not more than 8½" x 14", first page" at $10.00 and $8.50 for each further page, $1.00 a page for copies and $2.00 to certify one, with no discharge line; a veteran recording a DD-214 should cite section 28.222(3)(d) rather than pay. The statute does not waive the copy and certification charges. Removal. The same page prints the section 28.2221 notice that any person may ask the county recorder to remove from the public website "an image or copy of a public record, including an official record, if that image or copy is of a military discharge". It adds that "Requests must not be notarized, state the statutory basis for removal, and confirm the individual's eligibility for the exemption". Send the request to P.O. Drawer 510, Marianna, FL 32447, bring it to 4445 Lafayette Street, or email [email protected]. Office hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; main line (850) 482-9552.
