Henry County Employees: Military Leave Pay Supplement for up to Six Months

Henry County's employee handbook (effective April 1, 2024) gives military service leave to full-time, part-time and introductory employees under USERRA and State law, and the county tops up an employee's base military pay to no more than the regular county pay for up to six months of military leave, beyond the paid leave RSMo 105.270 requires.

Also called: military leave, USERRA, 105.270, National Guard, reserves, differential pay, pay supplement, county employees, employee handbook, Clinton, Windsor, Calhoun, Deepwater, Montrose, Urich, Blairstown, Brownington, Tightwad, Truman Lake.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's rule. The Henry County Employee Handbook, section 3.19, Military Leave: "Henry County provides military service leaves of absence to all full-time, part-time, and introductory employees in compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and applicable state laws." Then: "The County will supplement an employee's base military pay to an amount not to exceed the employee's regular County pay for a period of up to six (6) months while on military leave. If more time is needed, the leave will be unpaid or employees may use any or all accrued but unused vacation or other paid time off during the military leave." How it works. Give at least 30 days' notice where possible; the county may ask for the orders. Reemployment follows USERRA's terms, which the handbook restates: report back the next scheduled workday after service of under 31 days, apply within 14 days after 31 to 180 days, within 90 days after longer service, and up to two years while recovering from a service-connected injury; the handbook bars discrimination or retaliation for service. Missouri's own floor for county employees in the Guard or reserves is section 105.270's paid military leave (160 hours a federal fiscal year from August 28, 2026); see the Missouri entry. The handbook's holiday list includes Veterans' Day. The handbook posted is the one effective April 1, 2024 (the site calls it updated August 28, 2024); ask the County Clerk whether a later revision changes the supplement.
