Haines Borough: Veterans’ Preference in Borough Hiring

When Haines Borough applicants are otherwise equally qualified, veterans as state law defines them are preferred for employment, after the borough’s own employees and its residents.

Also called: hiring preference, veterans preference, HBC 2.74.070, borough employment, Haines.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Haines Borough Code 2.74.070, Hiring and promotion preference: "Other qualifications being equal, preference in employment shall be given first to borough employees and then to residents of the Haines Borough. When considering all applicants, other qualifications being equal, veterans, as defined by state law, shall be preferred for employment." It is a tie-break, not points: it applies only where qualifications are otherwise equal, and the code names borough employees and residents first. The code does not say which state definition of veteran it means; bring a DD-214 with the application.
