Fort Bend Central Appraisal District: Disabled Veteran Exemptions
The Fort Bend Central Appraisal District states the 100% homestead exemption with unemployability, the five-year late window and the line-of-duty spouse exemption correctly, but gives a 100% veteran's surviving spouse the exemption only if the veteran qualified in the year of death, and its site has nothing on the 2025 presumptive-condition spouse exemption.
The exemptions are the State's; the Texas entries explain them. The Fort Bend Central Appraisal District grants them for property in Fort Bend County.
What the district gets right. Its knowledge base states the 100% homestead exemption with both routes, a 100% rating or individual unemployability, asks for a VA letter showing 100% service-connected or "Paid at the 100% Service Connected due to unemployable", allows late applications up to five years after the delinquency date, and prorates the exemption from the move-in date. It names the section 11.133 exemption correctly, for the spouse of a member "Killed or Fatally Injured in the Line of Duty", though its short FAQ list still says "Killed in Action". It says the partial disabled veteran exemption is "not limited to your homestead", which is right.
Where it is narrower than the statute.
Surviving spouse. The knowledge base says the spouse qualifies "if the year your spouse died is also a year in which your spouse qualified for the 100% disabled veteran exemption", and cites section 11.131(d). The surviving spouse's exemption is in section 11.131(c), which also covers a veteran who would have qualified had the exemption existed at death; subsection (d) is the right to move the dollar amount to a new home, which the page does not describe.
Missing. Nothing on the site describes the 2025 exemption for the surviving spouse of a veteran who died of a condition presumed service-connected; see the Texas entry.
The district is at 2801 B. F. Terry Boulevard, Rosenberg 77471, 281-344-8623. Its online portal now takes both the homestead application (form 50-114) and the partial exemption application (form 50-135).
