Dodge County Veterans’ Aid Fund

Dodge County funds its section 80-102 veterans’ aid from inheritance tax rather than property tax: the adopted 2025-2026 budget moves $10,320 from the Inheritance fund into the Veterans’ Aid fund "to avoid property taxes on a small fund", and the county keeps a $12,000 Veterans’ Aid petty cash account so the committee can pay without waiting for the Board.

Also called: county veterans aid, 80-102, emergency aid, inheritance tax, petty cash, Veterans Service Committee, Fremont, North Bend, Scribner, Hooper, Snyder, Nickerson, Winslow.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

What the budget shows. Dodge County's adopted 2025-2026 budget lists a Veterans' Aid Fund among its county funds and, in its schedule of transfers, moves $10,320 from the Inheritance fund to Veterans Aid "to avoid property taxes on a small fund". The fund's own revenue page carries no property tax and no State or federal revenue; the transfers are its income. The budget message also lists the petty cash funds that county officers may spend from without prior Board approval under section 23-106, among them "Veterans' Aid, $12,000" - so aid the committee awards can be paid promptly, as section 80-102 asks. Who it reaches. The fund is the county fund section 80-102 creates: the veterans service committee fixes each amount for a veteran in need who served with an honorable or general (under honorable conditions) characterization, or died in service, and has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and for spouses, surviving spouses and minor children under eighteen, for food, shelter, fuel, clothing, medical or surgical aid, or funeral expenses (see the Nebraska entry). Applications go through the Veterans Service Office, (402) 727-2719. The committee's decisions and the fund's payments are not posted.
