The Veterans Relief Fund - the county's 45.86 aid - carries a $2,000 annual expense budget on a $20,000 non-lapsing assigned balance, disbursed mainly as gas and food cards for rent, shutoff and food emergencies; requests over $500 go to the commission chair for approval within 24 hours, and a stricter two-applications, $500-a-year cap was under discussion as of September 2026.
