Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are Georgia's: O.C.G.A. 48-5-48 for the qualifying disabled veteran and 48-5-52.1 for the unremarried surviving spouse of a service member killed in a war or armed conflict - the State entries carry the statutes, the qualification list and the yearly indexed amount. What Brooks's offices add is the route. Where and who. Tax Commissioner Becky Rothrock - the county's own Taxes page seats the office at phone 229.263.4586, fax 229.263.9020, [email protected], with the tag-and-tax routes and the tax office's own site, brookscountytax.com, whose tax-sale page seats the office at "610 S Highland Rd. Quitman, GA 31643". The Tax Assessor's Office: "Chief Appraiser Wayne Waldron, Phone: 229.263.7920, Fax: 229.263.5125, Email: [email protected]. The Assessors Office is located at 610 South Highland Street, Quitman, Georgia 31643, Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM", with the Board of Tax Assessors meeting "on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:15 p.m." and being "responsible for granting homestead exemptions and agricultural covenants". The county's own pages print no veteran amounts, and the qPublic record-search site answers a Cloudflare-style block (403) to plain fetch and was not read (the gap goes to docs/COUNTY-REVISIT.md). The FLOST the board approved. The board's July 6, 2026 minutes carry item "FA064-2026 - FLOST IGA": "The Board discussed placing a new 1% sales tax (FLOST) on the November ballot during the work session; and reviewed a draft copy prepared by County Attorney. The 1% tax will offset property taxes for all landowners and businesses. It was agreed that the distribution method will be by the digest percentage. County Attorney will finalize the IGA with the digest percentages. The percentages determined are Brooks County: 80.91%, Quitman: 16.05%; Morven: 1.86%; Barwick: 0.59%; Pavo: 0.6%. The Board unanimously approved the FLOST IGA to be placed on the November referendum ballot for voters to decide on the motion by Mr. Larko, seconded by Mr. Folsom ... There were two options: the LHOST and the FLOST, the county chose the FLOST because it benefits the Taxpayers by bringing personal tax down. The money does not go to any general fund account; it directly benefits taxpayers." The July 27, 2026 minutes record the "FLOST Referendum - Update", and the county's own 2026 notice of property tax increase page carries the homestead line "Homestead exemptions can be applied for during the 45-day appeal period". A veteran files with the Tax Assessor's Office before the return deadline and reads the amounts on the State entries.
