Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Veteran Services, part of the county's Housing and Human Services Department, is Brevard's veterans service office; see the Florida entry on claims assistance. Its staff complete and submit claims for VA and State benefits for veterans, families and survivors, and help make sure each claim carries the evidence it needs. What to bring. For compensation: the VA file number, Social Security number, DD-214, medical evidence, dependents' documents and bank details for direct deposit. For pension or survivors' pension, add proof of net worth and monthly income, the Social Security benefit statement and medical or assisted-living expenses. For Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, the long-form death certificate and every marriage certificate and divorce decree. For VA health care enrollment, the prior year's household income. Offices, all 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: 2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Suite 102, Viera; 2575 N. Courtenay Parkway, Suite 108, Merritt Island; and Palm Bay City Hall, 120 Malabar Road, Room 229. Phone 321-633-2012, email [email protected]. The county's authority. Section 250-1 of the County Code, a 1945 special act, lets the county employ a service officer, who must be an honorably discharged wartime veteran, and says every service to a veteran or dependent is "without charge". The act speaks of helping wartime veterans with an honorable discharge, but the office describes its service as for all of Brevard's veterans and families.
