Apache County Assessor: the Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

The Apache County Assessor (Rodger Dahozy, 75 W. Cleveland Street, St. Johns, 928-337-7624) takes the disabled veteran property tax exemption on the Arizona Department of Revenue's route: its own Personal Exemption flyer sets the application period (January 1 to March 1, 2026), the Department's 2026 limits (assessed value $36,454; income $39,865 with no children and $47,826 with), and the veteran's own reading - a VA Disability Letter stating the Overall Combined Service Rating, with the exemption percentage equal to the percentage of disability.

Also called: property tax, veteran exemption, disabled veteran, 42-11111, 42-11112, Personal Exemption, VA Disability Letter, Overall Combined Service Rating, $36,454, DOR82514B, Rodger Dahozy, Melissa Anton, 928-337-7624, St. Johns, St. Johns, Springerville, Eagar, Chinle, Window Rock, Fort Defiance, Ganado, Many Farms, Sanders, Vernon.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; see the Arizona entry on ARS 42-11111 and 42-11112. The county assessor administers it, and Apache County's own pages are the local account. The Assessor's flyer. The Assessor's Property Tax Relief section posts a "Personal Exemption" flyer (Rodger Dahozy, Assessor; Jason Moore, Chief Deputy Assessor; Melissa Anton, Exemption Specialist). Its application period: "Application period for 2026 is January 1 to March 1". Its limits are the Department of Revenue's for tax year 2026: "Assessed Value of all Property owned= $36,454"; "Income Limits - No Children = $39,865", "With Children = $47,826"; and "The 2026 total allowable exemption amount is $4,873". "Qualifying for this exemption does not necessarily remove all taxes. In most cases it will only reduce your tax liability." The veteran rows. "Disabled Veterans Qualifications: Applicant must be an owner of the property and a resident of Arizona. If a part owner a percentage of exemption may apply. Veterans with a disability exemption must provide their VA Disability Letter, that states their Overall Combined Service Rating. The Exemption percentage amount would be equal to the percentage of disability." The flyer's disability routes otherwise ask for "The completed AZ DOR Certificate of Disability form DOR82514B" (the medical-certification route) and note the widow/widower route needs "a 'Certified' or 'Government Use' death certificate for the deceased spouse... recorded with the Apache County Recorder's Office". Where to apply: "Applicant can apply in person at: Apache County Assessor's Office, 75 W Cleveland Street, St. Johns, AZ 85936." The statute behind it. Article IX, section 2 of Arizona's Constitution and ARS 42-11111 exempt from property tax the dwelling and up to three acres of a disabled veteran or the unremarried surviving spouse; section 42-11112's proportional route covers ratings under 100 percent - the flyer's "percentage of disability" line. The $36,454 assessed-value ceiling and the income limits are the Department of Revenue's 2026 figures; the exemption's $4,873 is the statutory maximum removed from assessed value (see the Arizona entries).
