Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Bring the original discharge papers and a photo ID to the Division of Real Estate, County Office Building, 542 Forbes Avenue, Room 101, Pittsburgh PA 15219. Recording is free, and the county keeps the record in a secure, private place. Copies. The veteran, an immediate family member, a funeral home or VA is entitled to one free certified copy of the recorded discharge; more copies are $1.00 each. Fill in the county's Military Discharge Form, or bring the answers. Questions: 412-350-4299. Why record it. A certified copy is quick to get when it is needed for a job, a VA claim, or a burial allowance, and the county's veterans office sends a veteran who has lost a DD-214 here first. A discharge never recorded has to be requested from the National Personnel Records Center.
