PL 2025, c. 152 Added certificate of title requirements to the disabled veteran excise tax exemption

Needs reviewEnactedScope changed

132nd Legislature

Restricts benefits Requires the qualifying veteran to be named on the certificate of title, so a vehicle titled only in a spouse's name no longer qualifies for the excise tax exemption.

The qualifying veteran must now be named on the automobile’s certificate of title, and where a vehicle has multiple owners at least one titled owner must meet the requirements. A vehicle titled only in a spouse’s name no longer qualifies. The Bureau of Veterans’ Services page on the exemption still quotes the section as amended in 2009, cites only subsection 1 of Title 29-A section 523 rather than subsections 1 or 2, and does not carry these requirements.
