Chapter 689 of 2026 (SB 194) Replaced the honorable-discharge test in the disabled veteran property tax exemption with the federal definition of veteran and added the Space Force

Catalog reconciledEnactedScope changed

Signed Takes effect

Expands benefits Opens the disabled veteran property tax exemption to any veteran under the federal definition, including the Space Force, rather than only the honorably discharged.

Amended Tax-Property section 7-208(a)(3) so that a disabled veteran is anyone who "is a veteran", meaning 38 U.S.C. 101 through State Government section 9-901, rather than someone "honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances", and added space service throughout, with parallel changes to the local credits in sections 9-265 and 9-323 and to the job creation tax credit. Section 3 applies to taxable years beginning after June 30, 2026. Chapter 647 of the same session reenacted section 7-208(a) in its old words without amendments; the Code prints Chapter 689’s text. Approved May 26, 2026, effective July 1, 2026.
