Maryland / State / 2026 Regular Session
Chapter 647 of 2026 (HB 842) Authorized a local property tax credit for a surviving spouse of a service member who is not eligible for the state exemption
Added Tax-Property section 9-267.1, letting Baltimore City, a county or a city grant by law a credit against local property tax on the dwelling of a surviving spouse, as section 7-208 defines one, who is ineligible for the 7-208 exemption, with the amount, duration and further conditions set locally. The introduced bill would have repealed the two-year acquisition window in section 7-208(b); the enacted act does not. Approved May 26, 2026, effective June 1, 2026, for taxable years beginning after June 30, 2026.
