HB 266 Military retirement income exclusion for taxpayers under 65

Watching a later dateEnactedFigure movedScope changed

Signed Takes effect

Expands benefits Lets a retiree under 65 exclude up to $65,000 of military retirement income from Georgia tax.

Lets an individual under 65 exclude up to $65,000 of armed forces retirement income, claimable separately by each spouse on a joint return and not stackable with the general retirement exclusion. Sources disagree on when: the Department of Revenue legislative summary puts section 1 at January 1, 2027 and taxable years beginning on or after it, while news coverage of the signing reported the 2026 tax year. The catalog follows the department. The Department of Veterans Service page still describes the old under-62 amounts.
