York County Veterans’ Aid

York County keeps a Veterans’ Aid fund under section 80-102 that has paid little: $1,359.50 in 2024-2025 and one $600 claim in November 2025, leaving $23,535.82 in it through October 2026; the county’s page does not mention it.

Also called: county veterans aid, Veterans' Aid, fund 1900, 80-102, emergency aid, LB1300, York, Henderson, McCool Junction, Waco, Bradshaw, Gresham, Benedict.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The fund. York County's fund 1900, Veterans' Aid, paid nothing in 2023-2024 (when $2,000 was transferred in from the general fund) and $1,359.50 in 2024-2025, and the filed 2025-2026 budget carries its whole balance, $24,135.82, as the year's "Veterans' Aid Costs". The Board's claims show one payment from it since, "Veterans Service Office Misc. 600.00" on November 25, 2025, and the fund-balance report in the minutes has read $23,535.82 from December 2025 to October 27, 2026. The county levies nothing for it. The office's own budget carries a separate $2,000 "Veterans' Aid Costs" line, which spent $189.97 in 2023-2024 and nothing in 2024-2025. Applying. Ask the Veterans Service Office, (402) 362-4047; the county's page says nothing about county aid. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
