Yarmouth Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Yarmouth’s fiscal 2027 personal exemptions sheet gives the veteran exemptions “in varying amounts (depending on the clause)” and no figures, so this entry gives the statute’s: $400 under clause 22 and $1,000 under 22E, with full exemptions under 22D and 22F.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Yarmouth.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Yarmouth grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ Personal Exemptions sheet for fiscal 2027 says the service-connected veteran, the award recipient and the surviving spouse or parent “is entitled to a real estate tax exemption in varying amounts (depending on the clause)”, and gives no figures; the figures here are the statute’s, and no clause 22I or 22J acceptance was found on the town’s site or in its records. A 100 percent veteran must file a VA benefits letter every year, and applications are due April 1, 2027. The sheet’s residence test, six consecutive months’ domicile before entering service or a year, is keyed to July 1, where the statute now asks two consecutive years before filing. The town’s veterans’ service is the Barnstable District Department of Veterans’ Services, which the town’s Veterans Services page says maintains six offices on Cape Cod serving fifteen towns, at 66 Falmouth Road in Hyannis. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Yarmouth Veterans Services: Barnstable District Office. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
