Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Resolution 10-26-2080 splits the Cemeteries section of the borough's Schedule of Fees and Rates: headstone installation stays $200 for a non-veteran and is $0 for a veteran. The rate applies to the installation of a headstone or marker for a veteran of the United States Armed Forces discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, on a DD-214 or other proof of veteran status the Borough Clerk accepts. Status. The Assembly heard it on October 13, 2026 and approved it on a motion with no public testimony; in the meeting's video the Borough Manager explains that a resident has been identifying the veterans' plots in the cemeteries and that the borough does not want to charge veterans' families. The resolution takes effect on adoption, and the borough posted the amended schedule on October 14, 2026. (The schedule's header reads "Effective 10/01/2026", which is earlier than the hearing; the resolution's own date governs.) The written minutes were not yet posted on October 16, 2026. What it covers. Only the installation of a headstone or marker for the veteran. It does not cover a spouse or dependent buried beside the veteran, and the other cemetery charges stay as they are: a single grave plot $1,000, opening and closing $900 on a weekday (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or $1,500 on a weekend, holiday or after hours, burial of cremated remains in a plot $180 or $360, and a columbarium niche $550. A family can order a government headstone or marker from the VA at no charge; with this rate, having it installed in a Wrangell cemetery costs nothing either. Where. The borough's two municipal cemeteries, the Wrangell Memorial Cemetery and Sunset Gardens Cemetery. The Borough Clerk keeps the cemetery records and takes the proof: Kim Lane, (907) 874-2381, [email protected].
