Wood County Veterans Service Office: Rides to VA Appointments

The Wood County Veterans Service Office contracts Black and White Paratransit for door-to-door rides to and from scheduled VA and VA-approved community-care medical appointments; veterans enroll through the office first and must have a valid DD-214 on file with it before calling the paratransit line.

Also called: transportation, rides, Black and White, paratransit, VA appointment, community care, enroll, DD214 on file, 419-354-9147.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office's Services page: "Our office uses Black and White Paratransit to provide door-to-door transportation services to VA appointments or Community Care that has been approved by the VA. Please call our office to enroll in this program." Its County Benefits page narrows this to "Rides are to and from VA scheduled medical appointments only, whether they are at a VA facility or community care" and adds the enrollment rule: "Veterans must be enrolled through our office prior to contacting Black and White Paratransit. A valid DD214 must be on file with the Wood County Veterans service Office." The county buys the service as its own department does anything else. The commissioners advertised a request for proposals for the Veterans Service Commission's transportation services on January 13, 2026 (resolution 26-00051), received and awarded the RFP to Black and White Transportation on February 24, 2026 (resolution 26-00229), and authorized the contract for "the purchase of transportation services for veterans medical appointments" on April 21, 2026 (resolution 26-00496). The office's appropriation review of October 9, 2025 had asked the Board for the 2026 money - the contract-services line increase was "primarily ... an additional $235,000" in transportation cost.
