Wood County Auditor: Disabled Veteran and Surviving Spouse Homestead Exemption

The Wood County Auditor takes the disabled-veteran homestead exemption on the DTE 105I application - filed by December 31 for the year, or late for a prior year - exempts up to $50,000 of the market value of the veteran's or eligible survivor's own home and up to one acre, requires an original paper application, tells owners when they are accepted, and takes online applications through its Beacon parcel records.

Also called: homestead exemption, disabled veteran, surviving spouse, DTE 105I, property tax, December 31, late application, Beacon, auditor, Oestreich, 419-354-9167.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's two veteran-facing pages line up on the substance. The veterans office's County Benefits page states the rule the Auditor applies: the exemption is "a reduction in property taxes to qualified disabled veterans, or a surviving spouse, on the dwelling that is that individual's principal place of residence and up to one acre of land", "equal to the taxes that would otherwise be charged on up to $50,000 of the market value", with the veteran defined as one - reserve and National Guard included - discharged under honorable conditions and rated 100 percent total, or 100 percent based on individual unemployability, for service-connected disability as of January 1, and the surviving spouse required to have been receiving or entitled to the exemption the year the veteran died, to have occupied the home at the death and to own it (or keep occupying a co-op unit), keeping it until the year after remarriage. Land-contract, life-estate and trust owners supply the paperwork showing their interest. "Homestead Exemption Application for Disabled Veterans and Surviving Spouses should be filed with the Wood County Auditor's Office." The Auditor's own pages (auditor.co.wood.oh.us, read 2026-10-21) carry the program and the form: "Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption Program ... An original application is required for this program. The property owners will be notified of acceptance into the program", and the county copy of DTE 105I (the state form, headed for Wood County Auditor Matthew Oestreich, P.O. Box 368, Bowling Green) prints "Real property and manufactured or mobile homes: File with the county auditor on or before December 31", with a separate late-application option for a prior year on the same form. The Forms page gives the online route: apply through the Real Estate Property Search (Beacon), the parcel record, and the Applications line that names "Homestead, Disabled Veteran's Homestead or Owner Occupied applications". The Auditor's Tax Reduction page also takes the DTE 105E certificate of disability and the 105H and 105G addenda, and the Real Estate Department answers at 419-354-9167 or [email protected]; the Manufactured Homes section runs the same exemption onto MH parcels. The State entries carry the Revised Code behind the figures and the December 31 rule; what is local is the Auditor's original-application, notification and online practice.
