Winthrop Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Winthrop’s own FY26 Exemptions Chart prints $576.24 under clause 22 and $1,440.60 under 22E - the statutes raised by the fiscal 2026 adjustment of 2.9 per cent and increased 40 per cent, what clause 22J at 40 per cent produces - beside an asterisked note that the veterans’ values change yearly due to COLA, naming no clause and no vote, so this entry asks the assessors.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Winthrop grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Allen E. Maruzzi the chair (term expires June 30, 2027), Peter Gill (June 30, 2026) and Brian Perrin (June 30, 2025), and the Assessing Department names Kathleen Cerulli-Hickey the Deputy Assessor and Marianne Brooks the Assistant Assessor at Town Hall, 1 Metcalf Square (617-846-2716). The department’s Exemptions page posts the town’s own "Winthrop Exemptions Chart - FY26": $576.24 under clause 22 for a disability of at least 10 per cent and $1,440.60 under 22E for a 100 per cent disability filing a VA certification annually, each asterisked "*Veterans values will change yearly due to COLA", beside 17D at $175 and 37A at $500, the statutes, and 17C, 17C½, 41B, 41C and 41C½ marked NOT ADOPTED. $576.24 is the statute’s $400 raised by the fiscal 2026 adjustment of 2.9 per cent and increased 40 per cent, and $1,440.60 the $1,000 raised the same way - what clause 22J at 40 per cent produces with a fiscal-2026 first application. The chart names no clause and no vote was found on the town’s site, whose code of ordinances sits on library.municode.com behind a Cloudflare challenge that does not clear, so the entry asks the assessors which the town has accepted. The Veterans’ Services page names Phil Ronan the Veterans Services Officer at 45 Pauline Street, EB Newton Building (617-846-3065, fax 617-846-0402), office hours tentatively Monday through Thursday 9 am to 3 pm, appointments required for claims, and describes the office’s advocacy, its job and healthcare help and its facilitation of the Memorial Day and Veterans Day events. The EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists the same officer at the same address, its building line reading "EB Newton Scholl". Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Winthrop Veterans’ Services: Phil Ronan, Veterans Services Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
