Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Windham County has no county government of its own; the state's county offices are the elected State's Attorney and the sheriff. The State's Attorney's staff list on the Department of State's Attorneys and Sheriffs' site - State's Attorney Steven Brown, six deputies, three victim advocates and support staff at 28 Vernon Street, PO Box 785, Brattleboro - names no veteran role. The sheriff's office (Sheriff Mark Anderson, 185 Old Ferry Road, Brattleboro) publishes its own site, which covers its divisions, towns and news and names no veteran programme. The claims route the State publishes is the Office of Veterans Affairs' certified service officers. The Office's own page: "Veterans applying for Disability Compensation or Improved Pension from the federal VA should not do this by themselves. Our certified service officers will complete the application and ensure the VA has all the information needed to process it". Call to make an appointment, 802-828-1082; the Office is at 118 State Street, Montpelier, (802) 828-3379, toll free in Vermont (888) 666-9844, office hours Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Office also verifies eligibility for the disabled veteran property tax exemption, which no county or town office administers. The Office's crisis page names 24-hour local counselling lines by town - Bennington, Bradford, Burlington, Manchester, Middlebury, Montpelier, Newport, Randolph, Rutland, St. Albans and St. Johnsbury - and no town in that list is in Windham County; a Windham County veteran in crisis uses 988 then 1, 911 or 211. No veterans treatment docket sits in the county: the Judiciary's list carries no veterans track anywhere in the state. The State's Attorney's July 14, 2026 press release announces a 90-day "Rapid Accountability Docket" surge for the week of July 20, 2026 - a recidivism docket of early plea offers and dedicated judicial time, with no veteran eligibility of any kind; its contact block gives the office's phone, (802) 257-2860.
