Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What it is, from the fiscal year 2027 application: "Though a generous grant from Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) & Funds for Veterans Assistance (FVA), the Wilson County Veterans Service Office offers one-time emergency financial assistance to Wilson County Veterans and their eligible beneficiaries. Eligible applicants may apply for up to $1,000 in financial assistance in various categories." The Commissioners Court accepted the $214,000 grant for September 2026 through August 2027 on July 13, 2026, approved the updated grant policies on August 24, 2026, and on October 12, 2026 gave the office permission to apply for $400,000 for 2028. Who. Applicants must live in Wilson County and be a veteran, or the current spouse, dependent child or surviving spouse of a Wilson County veteran "as defined by TVC-FVA guidelines." The veteran's discharge may be honorable, general under honorable conditions, other than honorable or uncharacterized; the application asks for the DD-214 (member 4 copy) or NGB-22, proof of residency, a Texas driver's licence or ID, a signed self-attestation of need and two months of financial statements, with marriage, birth or death certificates for family members. What it pays. Mortgage assistance (a one-time payment or arrears), rental assistance (a one-time payment or arrears), utility assistance ("Not to exceed a six (6) months or $3,000 per household"), transportation assistance (repairs or loan payments on the primary vehicle, for work, school and medical appointments; general maintenance is not allowable), and funeral assistance (a veteran's funeral and interment for a family that can show financial need, excluding receptions). The $1,000 figure on the first page and the utility line's $3,000 cap are both the application's own words; ask the coordinator which applies to a given request. Payment goes to the lender, landlord, utility, shop or funeral home, each of which must supply a W-9. How. "An initial consultation is required and must be completed in person." After it, the application and documents can be filed in person or electronically; a complete file takes about 30 days, requests are reviewed one by one in the order received, and help depends on available funds. Grant coordinator Christine Jones, (830) 391-3844, [email protected], at the Veterans Services Office, 1144 C Street, Floresville.
