Wilson County Tax Administration: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exclusion
Wilson County's Tax Administration takes the State's disabled veteran exclusion - the first $45,000 of the home's value, no income test - on the NCDVA-9 certification filed with the county application by June 1; the county's own Property Tax Relief page names the elderly and disabled exclusions and the circuit breaker but leaves the disabled veteran exclusion out, so the statute carries it.
Also called: property tax, disabled veteran, exclusion, $45,000, NCDVA-9, AV-9, 105-277.1C, Tax Administration, 252-399-2900, 2816 Ward Blvd, surviving spouse, June 1, Wilson, Elm City, Stantonsburg, Saratoga, Sims, Black Creek, Lucama, Rock Ridge, Kenly.
The exclusion is the State's (G.S. 105-277.1C); the North Carolina entry carries the amount and the rules. What Wilson County adds is where its Tax Administration takes it: Property Tax Exemption/Exclusion Application, phone 252-399-2900 option 6, mail PO Box 2106, Wilson, NC 27894-2106, in person 2816 Ward Blvd, Wilson, NC 27893, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What the county's page does and does not say. The Tax Administration's Property Tax Relief page (read through the October 7, 2026 Internet Archive capture) walks through the Elderly or Disabled Exclusion (G.S. 105-277.1, the greater of $25,000 or 50 percent of appraised value, income limit $37,900 for 2025, AV-9 and AV-9A forms, filed by June 1 - the page says "June 1, 2025") and the Circuit Breaker Tax Deferment (G.S. 105-277.1B), and takes motor-vehicle exemption claims under G.S. 105-330.3 with an AV-10V due in the January 1-31 listing period, plus the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act route for active-duty non-residents and the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act. It names no disabled veteran exclusion. The exclusion itself is the State's: a veteran with a total and permanent service-connected disability (or a specially adapted housing grant) or an unmarried surviving spouse applies on the county application with the State's NCDVA-9 certification, and no income test applies to the veteran. Only one of the homestead exclusion, the disabled veteran exclusion and the circuit breaker can apply to a home in a year.
