Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s Veterans and Active Duty page says “the basic assessment reduction under CT General Statutes 12-81(19) and 12-81(g) is $1,500,” the $1,000 base raised at revaluation under 12-62g (the town revalued for the 2024 grand list). The DD-214 or other discharge papers are recorded with the Town Clerk before October 1, or a Still Serving Affidavit signed by the commanding officer is returned to the assessor by September 30. The page’s disabled-veteran section prints a 12-81(20) reduction of 3,000 at a 10 percent rating, rising as the rating rises, and says “disabled veterans over the age of 65 receive the $3500 amount.” The exemptions are maintained for widows/widowers, so long as they do not remarry. A 100 percent permanently and totally disabled veteran files the assessor’s 100% P&T application packet. The additional exemption section says that under 12-81g the base amount is doubled for an income-eligible veteran, and prints the limits: “For the 2026 Grand List, the 2025 household income limit is 46,300 if you are single and 56,500 if you are married,” with the application filed biennially between February 1 and September 30 and the exemption maintained for widows/widowers so long as they apply and meet the income guidelines. An earlier paragraph on the same page prints the prior year’s limits, “household income for 2024 … less than $45,200 (single) or $55,100 (married).” OPM’s memo of December 12, 2024 set $45,200 and $55,100 for the 2025 grand list, and the 2026 amounts are the next pair; veteran’s disability payments and non-taxable social security are not counted. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded the town’s own 12-81f wartime additional exemption at $1,000.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
