Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Williamstown grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The site has moved to williamstownma.gov, where williamstown.net serves a two-second meta refresh. The Assessors’ page names Christopher J. Lamarre, MAA, the Principal Assessor (413-597-8320) at Town Hall, 31 North Street, and works the fiscal 2026 tax rate of $14.20 per thousand as its example, where the Board of Assessors’ page seats three members appointed by the Town Manager and names none. The department’s Tax Exemptions page gives eligible veterans "a property tax exemption of $400 (Clause 22) or $1,000 (Clause 22E), depending on disability status" - the statutes - on "at least 6 consecutive months before entering military service, or ... at least 2 consecutive years before the start of the tax year", its second arm keyed to the tax year’s start rather than the filing date, with an April 1 deadline it calls final - "the Assessors cannot waive this deadline or accept late applications for any reason" - and its veterans application a "Clause 22 Veterans Exemption Application" PDF the town hosts on its SharePoint. No acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Veterans Services page says "Current Veterans Services are provided at the North Adams City Hall": Room 101, 10 Main Street, North Adams (413-662-3040), staff Kurtis Durocher the Veterans Agent and Makayla Meczywor the Administrative Assistant, its services chapter 115 financial assistance, VA claims help "for ALL Veterans" and a food pantry and clothing closet serving all of northern Berkshire County from the city’s hall. The EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Williamstown row lists the same officer at 31 North Street, Williamstown (413-662-3040, [email protected]), the town hall the town’s own contact block prints, and its Adams row serves him Tuesdays from 3 Hoosac Street, Adams - ask the office which address holds its Williamstown hours. The page launches a Hometown Heroes Banner Program and names no post of the town’s own. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Williamstown Veterans Services: Kurtis Durocher, Veterans Agent (the North Adams office). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
