Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County runs its own transportation programme, with two part-time drivers. The veteran or a caregiver calls the office (815-740-8389) to book a pick-up, as soon as the appointment is known, and the rides go to Hines VA Hospital, VA clinics, specialists, hospitals and other medically necessary appointments. The service is free. The Commission gives priority to veterans who have no vehicle, cannot drive safely because of a medical condition, or have no family or community help. It gave 325 rides in fiscal 2025, up from 200 in 2024, and its report says the rise came partly from VA making its own transportation eligibility more restrictive.
