Wilbraham Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Wilbraham’s assessors post no exemption amounts, so this entry gives the statute’s, and the town’s own work-off application records a veterans’ tax work-off of up to $1,500 for 100 hours under G.L. c. 59, s. 5N, accepted by town meeting May 16, 2022.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Wilbraham.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Wilbraham grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Lawrence G. LaBarbera the chairman, John M. Wesolowski the clerk and Roger J. Roberge II a member, at Town Hall (413-596-2800, extension 209), and covers valuations, abatements and the fiscal 2027 revaluation without a personal-exemptions page or any clause amount of the town’s own, so the figures here are the statute’s; no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the town’s site. The Senior & Veteran Tax Work Off Program’s 2027 application records the veterans’ tax work-off: a veteran as defined by M.G.L. Chapter 4, § 7, cl. 43 may earn an abatement of no more than $1,500 per fiscal year for a total of 100 hours of service at $15.00 an hour, under M.G.L. Chapter 59, Section 5N, accepted by annual town meeting May 16, 2022, with the Board of Selectmen setting the rate at $15.00 on October 3, 2022. The Veterans Agent page names Patrick G. Renna the Director of Veterans Services and Barbara Harrington the Administrative Assistant at 250 Springfield Street (413-596-8379), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer, and states the office’s mission to provide Wilbraham’s veterans and their families their authorized benefits, entitlements and services. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Wilbraham Veterans Agent: Patrick G. Renna, Director of Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
