Whitman Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Whitman’s FY 2026 Property Exemption Eligibility Requirements sheet prints the statute’s own amounts - $400 under clause 22, $750 under 22A and $1,000 under 22E, full under 22D and 22F - with no 22B or 22C line and no acceptance named, so this entry gives the statute’s.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Whitman.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Whitman grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Heidi S. Hosmer the chairman, Christine E. MacPherson the clerk and Brittany Cavallo the member, at Town Hall, 54 South Avenue (781-618-9760); the FY 2026 sheet names Wendy Jones the Principal Assessor (781-618-9761). The Assessors’ Real Estate Exemptions page posts a Property Exemption Eligibility Requirements sheet for fiscal 2026 that prints $400 under clause 22 for a veteran with a 10 to 90 per cent service-connected disability, a Purple Heart recipient or the parent of a soldier lost in war, $750 under 22A for the loss of a foot, hand or eye and $1,000 under 22E for a 100 per cent rating, beside full exemptions under 22D, 22F and 22H. The sheet carries no 22B or 22C line, each printed amount is the statute’s own, and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found anywhere on the town’s site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Clause 22 application the page posts is the Commonwealth’s own Form 96-4. The Veterans’ Services page names Shannon Murphy the Veterans’ Services Director at 54 South Avenue (781-618-9750), appointment only, where the EOVS directory lists the same officer ([email protected]); the page’s chapter 115 FAQ describes the needs test and the cash help and gives the officer’s line as 781-618-9570, a number that matches neither the page’s own contact block nor the directory’s - ask the office which it answers. The page records a "new Veteran Tax Work-Off Program": a veteran, or the spouse of a disabled or deceased veteran, volunteers to work for the town for a credit of up to $1,500 off the real estate tax, applications due to Veteran Services by October 31, 2024. It names no section, so this entry records the program under the section 5N work-off it is, and the page’s Veterans Bonuses tab describes the Commonwealth’s welcome-home bonus. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Whitman Veterans’ Services: Shannon Murphy, Veterans’ Services Director. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
