Weymouth Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Weymouth doubles the veteran exemptions for fiscal 2027: $800 under clause 22, $1,500 under 22A and $2,000 for a 100 percent rating under 22E, with full exemption under 22D and 22F.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Weymouth.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Weymouth grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors Office’s fiscal 2027 exemptions sheet gives $800 under clause 22 (a rating of 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart, or the parent of a service member who died), $1,500 under 22A, $2,000 under 22E with a new VA letter every year, and full exemption under 22D and 22F. These are twice the statute. The same sheet doubles the senior and surviving spouse exemptions too ($1,000 under 41C, $350 under 17D), which is how an additional exemption under section 5C½ works, not clause 22J; the sheet names neither, and the vote was not found. Forms filed by October 31 are reflected on the actual tax bill, split between the third and fourth quarters; the last day to file for fiscal 2027 is April 1, 2027. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Weymouth Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
