Westwood Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Westwood’s site answers Akamai’s Access Denied to curl and the automated browser alike, so its pages were read through the Internet Archive’s captures; its assessing pages print no clause amount and its exemption documents have no captures, so this entry gives the statute’s, and its Veteran’s Services page redirects to the West Suburban Veterans’ Services District’s own site, Dan O’Neill directing, Monday hours at the Senior Center the district records.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Westwood.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Westwood grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. www.townhall.westwood.ma.us answers Akamai’s "Access Denied" to curl and to the automated browser alike (the reference page’s edgesuite.net link the same), so the town’s pages were read through the Internet Archive’s captures, the newest each path holds. The Assessing page, newest captured August 14, 2026, seats the elected Board of Assessors - Nancy C. Hyde the chair, Mark F. Murphy the clerk and Christopher J. McKeown the third member - with Cheryl Hanly the Director of Assessing (781-320-1003, [email protected]), Lisa Ciampa the Office Coordinator and Annmarie Martini the Administrative Assistant at Town Hall, first floor, 580 High Street (781-326-1904, fax 781-251-2588, [email protected]), printing the fiscal 2026 tax rates of $12.87 residential and $24.27 commercial, industrial and personal property, and saying the office "processes applications for tax exemptions for the elderly, disabled veterans, widows or widowers and the blind" without an amount. Its "MA Real Estate Exemptions Information" and "Westwood’s Real Estate Tax Assistance Programs" documents are showpublisheddocument files the Archive has never captured, and the Assessing FAQs page, newest captured June 17, 2026, lists the exemptions - the legally blind, "veterans who have become disabled as the result of wartime service and have a disability rating of at least 10%", surviving spouses, minors, over-70s - with no amount of the town’s own, all qualifying July 1. No acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the captured pages, so the figures here are the statute’s. The town’s own Veteran’s Services page, newest captured January 15, 2026, is a redirect: "You will be redirected to the destination page below in 5 seconds ... https://westsuburbanveterans.com/". The district’s own site, read live, names Dan O’Neill the Veterans Services Officer and Meganne Allison the District Administrator at 781-489-7509, with the Westwood hours "Mondays: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m." at the Westwood COA, 60 Nahatan Street, and describes the district as Needham, Wayland, Wellesley, Weston and Westwood, "more than 2,000 in total", whose office helps with claims, VA health care, state and federal financial assistance, records and burial benefits - the district the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Westwood row lists on the same 60 Nahatan Street, its row’s phone reading (781) 320-1073, the Senior Center’s line, where the district’s site gives 781-489-7509 ([email protected]). The district’s pages carry a Purple Heart Town - Westwood note beside the same for its four member towns. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Westwood Veteran’s Services: West Suburban Veterans’ Services District, Dan O’Neill, Veterans Services Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
