Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Section 26-55 of the county code (as amended through the Ordinance of May 9, 2016) imposes an annual license tax per vehicle: "$40.75" each automobile, "$28.75" each motorcycle, motor scooter or similar, "$20.38" each farm vehicle, "$51.75" each heavy duty vehicle, "$45.75" each motorhome and "$18.00" each trailer and semi-trailer. Volunteer rescue squad and fire department vehicles are licensed free of charge (section 26-55(c)), and section 26-54 credits town license taxes paid. Section 26-55(b) exempts "the owner of a vehicle required to be licensed under this article who is exempted under provisions of state statutes from payment of annual state vehicle registration fees" - which reaches every vehicle Title 46.2, chapter 6, article 11 requires to be fee-free, including the disabled-veteran plated vehicle under the section 46.2-755 bar. The county's pages publish no separate disabled-veteran license exemption of their own; the statute and subsection (b) are the route, and a veteran who qualifies for the plates at a lower rating should expect the fee and ask the Treasurer at 804-493-0124.
