Westborough Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Westborough’s Tax Relief and Exemption Information page prints the veterans’ statutes beside a maximum exemption column at twice them, naming no option, so this entry gives the statute’s and asks the assessors what the maximum rests on.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Westborough.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Westborough grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Wendy Elassy, MAA the Chief Assessor (508-366-3010) and says the board consists of two members the Town Manager appoints and the Chief Assessor, without naming the appointees. The Tax Relief and Exemption Information page’s qualifications table prints the veterans’ clauses at the statute with a maximum exemption column at twice it: $400 initial and $800 maximum under clause 22 for a veteran rated less than 100 per cent or a Purple Heart recipient, $750 and $1,500 under 22A, $1,250 and $2,500 under 22B, $1,500 and $3,000 under 22C, full exemption under 22D and 22F, and $1,000 and $2,000 under 22E, each beside clauses 17D, 41C, 41A, 37A and 18. The page names no option behind the maximum and no vote was found on the town’s site, so the figures here are the statute’s; ask the assessors whether the maximum is what clause 22J produces. Veterans Services sits at Town Hall, 34 West Main Street (508-366-3085). The Central MA Veterans’ Services directory page names Jeffrey Farrell the Veterans Service Director and Ashley Gerstel the Veteran Agent (508-366-3085), with the district’s Westborough hours Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons and its Grafton, Northborough and Shrewsbury hours on other days, and the district’s phone at 774-293-2208; the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists Jeffrey Farrell at Town Hall with the same number ([email protected]). The district’s own centralmassvets.org path redirects to the town’s site, and the town’s Central-MA-Veterans-Service-District menu page redirects to a mirror of the town’s site. The town’s Veterans’ Organizations page lists the district’s posts: VFW Post 9013 and American Legion Post 0163 in Westborough, American Legion Delisle Goulet Post 92 and VFW Post 1497 in Grafton, American Legion Vincent F. Picard Post 234 in Northborough, VFW Charles F. Murphy Post 10278, American Legion Raymond Stone Post 238 and Veterans, Inc. in Shrewsbury, and the Disabled American Veterans and Marine Corps League in Worcester. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Central MA Veterans’ Services: Jeffrey Farrell, Veterans Service Director. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
