West Hartford’s local option takes $10,000 or 10 percent of assessed value, whichever is greater, off for a wartime veteran with income up to $70,200 single or $80,100 married on the 2025 grand list. Its code also adopts the 12-81g(b) option for a veteran rated 100 percent.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Assessment Office’s notice for the 2025 grand list, for applications from February 3 to October 1, 2025, gives the local additional exemption the Town Council adopted as an assessment reduction of $10,000 or 10 percent of assessed value, whichever is greater, for income up to $70,200 single or $80,100 married. It gives the state additional exemption’s limits as $45,200 and $55,100, and $18,000 and $21,000 of adjusted gross income for a veteran rated 100 percent. VA disability payments do not count, and both programs are renewed every two years. Code § 161-13, adopted in 1988 and last amended on October 14, 2014, authorizes the C.G.S. 12-81f exemption for a wartime veteran and spouse whose income meets the state limit or exceeds it by no more than $25,000, at the greater of $10,000 or 10 percent of assessed value, and from the October 1, 2014 grand list the 12-81g(b) option for a veteran rated 100 percent. The notice’s local limits are the state’s 2025 limits plus $25,000. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded West Hartford as offering 12-81g(b) but not 12-81f, which the code and the notice both show it offers. The notice prints the subsection (a) limits for a veteran rated 100 percent, not the subsection (b) limits of $21,000 single and $24,000 married. Ask the assessor which applies. Code § 161-7 exempts a disabled veteran’s specially equipped vehicle.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
