Weld County Assessor: Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

The Weld County Assessor administers the State exemption - half of the first $200,000 of actual value exempted and paid by the State - and limits a multiple-residence owner to one designated primary residence; its page states no application deadline, so confirm with the office.

Also called: property tax, assessor, disabled veteran exemption, Greeley, 39-3-203, Fort Lupton, Windsor.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; see the Colorado entry. Since January 1, 2024 the application goes to the county assessor, and in Weld County that is the Assessor's office in Greeley. What the Assessor says. "Disabled Veterans Tax Exemption - For disabled veterans who qualify, 50 percent of the first $200,000 of actual value of the property is exempted. Owners of multiple residences may designate only one property as their primary residence. The state will pay the exempted property tax." The page adds that exemptions exist "for seniors, disabled veterans, and certain charitable organizations" and links the State's forms. What the page leaves out. It states no application deadline and no rating test, so a Weld veteran must take those from the State forms and the Colorado entry: a 100% permanent rating or individual unemployability, with the 2027-season deadline of July 15 (late August 15) under Senate Bill 26-046, and 39-3-206's good-cause late application before then.
