Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the page says. Webster County's Veteran Benefits page calls the CVA fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items, applied for through the Veterans Service Office, where the veteran "must demonstrate an 'inability'" to pay. The test it prints is out of date. The page limits the fund to veterans who "received an Honorable Discharge, and served during one of the defined 'wartime eras'", with a year in Nebraska and six months in Webster County. LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. A peacetime veteran, or one with a general discharge, should apply anyway. What the fund holds and pays. The filed 2025-2026 budget's Veterans Aid Fund (1900) held $3,470.43 on July 1, 2023 and $3,470.63 on July 1, 2025, growing by ten cents a year of in-lieu-of-tax receipts, with no property tax and nothing paid in 2023-2024 or 2024-2025. For 2025-2026 it budgets the whole $3,470.73: $2,470.73 for medical and hospital client services and $1,000.00 of emergency relief. How to apply. Through the Veterans Service Office, 402-746-2493, Monday or Wednesday (see that entry). See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
