What the fund holds. Fund 1900, Veterans' Aid, levies no tax and lives on its balance: $2,553.59 on July 1, 2023, $2,553.87 on July 1, 2025, with 14 cents a year of in-lieu-of-tax money and no disbursement in either year; the 2025-2026 budget carries the whole $2,553.87 as "Veterans' Aid Costs". No aid claim appears in the Board's minutes of August 2025 to September 2026. The budget message also mentions a Soldiers and Sailors checking account kept outside the county's funds, without its balance. How to apply. The county posts no aid page or application; call the Veterans Service Office, (402) 375-2764 (see that entry). Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
