The office. Eric Posern, Veterans Service Officer, Washington County Courthouse Annex, 105 W. Main Street, Suite 102, Brenham, Texas 77833; (979) 277-6228, fax (979) 277-6259; [email protected]. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday to Friday; "Please call or come by for an appointment." The office assists "veterans and/or their dependents and survivors in obtaining entitled benefits from the U. S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the State of Texas" (see the Texas entry for Government Code chapter 434). What the office reports. Posern's monthly report to the Commissioners Court counts contacts and forms by type. March 2026: 287 telephone, email and face-to-face contacts and 95 forms completed on behalf of veterans and dependents, across benefits, health care, honours and memorials, education, home loans, support and public engagement; September 2026: 277 contacts and 84 forms. The 2026 reports run from 254 to 319 contacts a month. A correction to the page. The page says a DD-214 recorded with the County Clerk "would become a public record". Since 2003 Government Code 552.140 has kept a recorded discharge confidential, and the Clerk's own Military Discharge page says so (see the Clerk entry). How the county funds it. The office is General Fund department 0400, "Veteran's Office". The 2027 budget (the county's year is the calendar year) sets it at $53,180, $43,316 of it the appointed department head's pay; 2026 budgeted $52,861.07 and 2025 spent $51,400.06. The Social Services department carries $2,500 a year for the "Veteran's Plaza". Jurors may donate their pay to veterans: the accounts payable approved on March 3, 2026 paid $220 of "Jury Donations - Veterans" to a Washington County veterans payee, alongside the Child Welfare Board and CASA.
