Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Washington County houses its veteran services inside the Disability, Aging and Veteran Services department. The department states its mission: to "empower older adults, veterans and people with disabilities by connecting them with essential services and resources to enhance quality of life with compassion, dignity and respect." Two things the department says about scope matter to a veteran reader. First, while most of its programmes serve people 60 and over, "our veterans program and benefits enrollment center serve all ages". Second, "We provide free advice and assistance for Washington County veterans and their family members to obtain all the benefits and services they are entitled to under the law." The department also assists with Medicare, connects people with limited income and resources to key benefits, supports family caregivers, and provides short-term intervention for isolated seniors; a veteran over 60 will meet those services through the same office. Contact: 503-846-3060, with the department's e-newsletter, The Advisory, and several newsletters open to the public.
