Washington County Tax Credit for Platoon 22 Veterans Housing

From July 1, 2026, state law requires Washington County and its towns to credit 100% of their property tax on real property that Platoon 22, Incorporated owns and uses to house veterans. It is a credit to the organization, not to an individual veteran.

Also called: Platoon 22, veterans housing, nonprofit, 9-323(h), Chapter 807.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Chapters 807 and 808 of 2026 added section 9-323(h) to the Tax-Property Article. The governing body of Washington County and of each municipality in the county "shall grant, by law," a credit equal to 100% of the county or municipal property tax on real property owned by Platoon 22, Incorporated and used to provide housing to veterans. The acts took effect June 1, 2026 and apply to taxable years beginning after June 30, 2026. The credit goes to the organization's property, not to a veteran's own home. A veteran looking for housing benefits from it only as a resident of Platoon 22's housing. The county ordinance the statute calls for was not on the Treasurer's tax credit page when this entry was written. Property of a national veterans organization or one of its posts has a separate statewide exemption under section 7-234.
