Warren Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Warren’s Exemptions page describes an additional exemption “provided by the CT State Statute CGS 12-81f” that OLR’s survey recorded the town as not offering, and prints no amount for any veterans’ exemption; the assessor posts the state’s Form D-2 guidelines for the 12-81(83) exemption.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Warren.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor page gives the office’s contact information, its filing deadlines - the Additional Veteran’s Exemption and the Blind, Disabled and Veteran’s Exemption each October 1, motor vehicles for members of the armed forces December 31 - and links for field cards, GIS mapping and the homeowners’ benefit program. Its Exemptions page carries the veterans’ section: the basic exemption takes an Honorable Discharge Form DD-214, original or certified copy, filed with the Town Clerk before October 1 with service during one or more eligible war dates, although veterans receiving a disability through the Veterans Administration who have filed a DD-214 qualify whether or not they served during the eligible dates; under P.A. 18-47 a veteran with an Other than Honorable discharge because of post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury or military sexual trauma may qualify by submitting a completed CT DVA OTH Form 1 and other required documentation; disabled veterans file a letter from the Administration showing the rate of disability for the increased exemption, a one-time filing unless the rate changes, and are to notify the Assessor once they have reached the age of 65; and a member of the armed forces still in service in time of war is eligible for the standard exemption on satisfactory evidence presented to the Assessor prior to October 1, with one motor vehicle exempt on the Armed Forces Application for Motor Vehicle Property Tax Exemption (CGS 12-81(53)) filed no later than the 31st day of December following the date on which property tax is due. A page headed “Permanently & Totally Disabled Veteran 100% Service-Connected Disability Rating Tax Exemption” carries only its title and links to the OPM Form D-2 guidelines and an application that answers with a login. The Exemptions page tells a veteran presently receiving a Veteran’s Exemption that they “may qualify for an additional exemption, provided by the CT State Statute CGS 12-81f,” on certain income limits, filed February 1 through October 1 of any given year for the exemption on that October 1 Grand List, on proof of all income for the preceding calendar year, with a copy of the tax return and all 1009s, the SSA 1099 for Social Security benefits, and veterans’ disability income not considered - and Social Security benefits also not considered for a veteran rated 100 percent disabled through the Administration. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Warren as offering no municipal option; whether Warren offers a 12-81f exemption is for the assessor to say. No amount is printed for any veterans’ exemption: the wartime exemption is $1,000 of assessed value under 12-81(19), with the 12-81g(a) additional exemption of twice that for income within the 12-81l limit. The guidelines the assessor posts are OPM’s sheet for Form D-2: under C.G.S. 12-93 as amended by P.A. 25-168 § 235, the application serves any person claiming the exemption of 12-81(83) for assessment years commencing on and after October 1, 2025. No Warren code was found on a readable host; ask the assessor.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
