The page gives no hours or e-mail address, so call first; its only link is to an online-colleges directory for GI Bill users. The office files VA and State claims under Government Code chapter 434 (see the Texas entry). TexVet's county list does not name him; for Ward it gives the Texas Veterans Commission's Midland office, (432) 688-4879, whose claims counselors help any veteran free. How the county funds it. General Fund department 0420, "Veterans Service Officer", is $29,192 in the 2027 budget, adopted by the Commissioners Court on August 24, 2026: $22,582 for "Wages, Veterans Service" (the salary schedule lists the "Veterans Officer" at $22,581.78, up from $21,506.46), a $500 stipend, $1,770 of Social Security, $3,340 of retirement and $1,000 for supplies. The department was budgeted at $27,477 for 2026 ($7,307.79 spent by July 31, 2026) and spent $12,773.83 in 2025. A small veterans fund. The budget also carries fund 118, "Vetrans Fund", which takes in a "Community Service Fee" ($100 budgeted for 2027; $929 came in during 2024) and budgets $1,200 of "Sundry" spending for 2027 ($1,500 a year before, none spent in 2024 or 2025). The budget does not say what the fund pays for; ask the officer or the County Auditor.
