Walpole Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Walpole’s fiscal 2026 tax assistance sheet prints an exemption amount range of $400 up to a full tax bill under clause 22, the statute, so this entry gives the statute’s amounts.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Walpole.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Walpole grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ Tax Assistance Programs sheet for fiscal 2026 describes clause 22 for a veteran with a war-service-connected disability of 10 percent or more and prints “Exemption amount range $400 up to Full Tax Bill.” $400 is the statute and the full tax bill is what clauses 22D and 22F grant, so the figures here are the statute’s; the sheet names no local option, and the fall 2026 town meeting booklet carries no clause 22I or 22J article, so ask the assessors to confirm. The sheet’s eligibility line still asks that the veteran have lived in Massachusetts for not less than five years prior to filing, the wording the statute carried before the HERO Act. The Veterans Agent page names Ian Rogers the Director at the Walpole Co-op South Street Center, 60 South Street (508-660-7325), where the EOVS directory lists the same office at Town Hall, 135 School Street. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Walpole Veterans Agent: Ian Rogers, Director. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
